A lot of people go to college for 7 years…

…but it only took Garrett three and a half!
Without further adieu, the moment his mother waited 29 years for.

My DADventure Begins

What now?
What now?

Recently Lauren and I became parents to a beautiful baby boy, Mathias a.k.a. “Mighty Mathias, Buddy, Squirt, Mats”. We have suffered sleepless nights, frustration, absolute joy, and everything in between while learning how to take care of another human being.  I had read up a little before Mats arrived but it seems like it all went out the window when I was holding a screaming baby in my arms, bouncing up and down, and wondering, “What the hell do I do?!”.  Just as Mathias is learning about the world around him now, I am doing the same thing from practice and experience.  My trials and tribulations being a father are sometimes not that funny to me but when I think about it later it is pretty damn hilarious.

So… it’s with this new section of the blog that I will mock myself and give you the chance to do the same with a glimpse into my adventures figuring out what I am doing as a dad.  DADventures, get it?  Yes, I know that I am not that original but originality is so last year or whenever someone found out that A and D connect both words! On top of all the witty commentary I will also bring my own take on how I have dealt with becoming a new parent and the resources I have used to get by in a somewhat sane manner.

Anyways, stay tuned for discussions about diaper changing, all the other bodily functions that come along with kids, links to helpful resources and hopefully hilarious videos like this!

Doesn’t being a parent seem fun?  I’ll also dig down into my emo side and share all the changes in my life that don’t involve getting poop on my hands on a daily basis.  That’s right, we’re going to talk about feelings gentleman. This is a safe place!  I hope this can be a thoroughly entertaining view of life as a dad that can be used as a resource for those preparing to get in the trenches or those already standing with me.  So stay tuned for more real dad tips and share some of your own in the comments.  Us dads can use all the help we can get.

Teague FC Announces Roster Addition

TEAGUE FC ANNOUNCES ROSTER ADDITION
“Tiny Teague” set to join family in early July 2013.

Garrett and Lauren, founders of Teague FC, are adding to their “family club” in the summer of 2013. The proud parents-to-be announced the news to family and friends in person over the recent holidays, while visiting both Oregon and Texas. The baby is expected to compete for its parents and grandparents’ top affections upon its arrival in early July. A routine exam earlier today confirmed “tiny Teague” is healthy with a strong heartbeat at 14 weeks.

“The secret is finally out!” exclaimed Garrett, who enjoyed many ways of trying to point out Lauren’s baby bulge to unsuspecting family at Christmas. The dad-to-be will be juggling fatherhood with his last semester of college and a full-time position at JaxParks in the fall.

When asked about gender preferences, Lauren simply answers, “Ten fingers and ten toes is all I want,” though acknowledging the Teague family pressure to have a baby boy who will carry on the family name. The parents are finding out the sex of the baby in February, and Garrett is tasked with a creative way to announce it via video on this website. A name, however, will likely be undecided until the parents meet the little one for the first time.

Tiny Teague is the first roster addition since Teague FC was established in September 2010. Along with its parents, the baby is eagerly awaited by grandparents Roy & Mary Beyer of Prineville, Oregon, and Rick & Robbye Teague of Fort Worth, Texas, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins (biological and honorary) across the country.

TeagueFC.com will be the exclusive home for all baby news, including bump and ultrasound photos, video updates and things Lauren & Garrett want to share with the world. Respecting your Facebook news feed, the parents will avoid posting ultrasound photos onto Facebook, but you can subscribe to TeagueFC.com to receive updates in your email inbox (top right on the homepage).

Christmas (Card) Time is Here Again

Enter December, and enter time to craft the annual Christmas card to our family and friends. Back in 2006, I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December, so I sent my graduation announcement photo as a holiday card, which started a tradition of cards reaching far and wide this time each year. Maybe its because I’ve been far away from those I consider dear friends, whether living in Arizona, Oregon or Florida, but I absolutely love sending out a Christmas card. Who doesn’t love getting mail? To that note, being on the receiving end of holiday cards has let me track my cousins as they grow up and provided a number of family photos I keep to display throughout the year.

As I wait for the 2012 version of the Teague (FC) card to arrive, I thought it would be fun to go back and look at how our cards have evolved since Garrett and I started sending them together. (Hint: click on one photo to see them all in a slideshow gallery.)

Expect the 2012 version to hit mailboxes in about a week (and I’ll share a version of it here too). It’s not too late to get on our list, so please send me an email or leave a comment if you want to be added! We moved earlier this year, so if our entry in your address book still has an apartment number in it, contact me to get the new one. We don’t want to miss your notes and photos as the year comes to a close.

Soccer Tailgate at the JUFC “Save our Sports” game Saturday

Garrett’s summer soccer team is a NPSL team, or basically a regional semi-pro team made up of current & former collegiate and professional soccer players. Jacksonville United plays in a SouthEast league against teams from Tennessee, Georgia & Alabama throughout, though locally it’s tied in with one of the junior soccer clubs, JUFC.

Tomorrow’s home game is a big one, because it’s a charity game for the “Save Our Sports” campaign in Duval County schools. JV high school soccer is on the chopping block, but there’s a groundswell effort in the soccer community to fund raise private dollars to pay for the upcoming season. (Isn’t it funny that the GOP’s push for keeping tax breaks and no new taxes is actually forcing people like you and me to fund what we deem important to society out of our own pocket, under the guise of charity?? But that’s a post for another time…)

JUFC takes on Knoxville Force at Mandarin HS in Jacksonville at 7pm Saturday, the 25th. I’ve been told if the game sells out the 10,000 seat stadium, it would raise enough $$ to fund the JV soccer season for boys and girls next year. I’m not sure if we’ll get 10K people out, but even to get 1,000 would be awesome. I’ve been tweeting about this all week and sent game invites to all of our local friends in Jacksonville. I also decided I needed to practice my tailgating, since the Jacksonville University soccer season is a couple months away, and so too will hopefully be Jaguars NFL games. I’ve never actually thrown a tailgate party (and drive a Camry, sans an actual tailgate), so I’m researching recipes and penciling together a menu I think I can pull together.

If I hit up Costco when it opens and get to cooking not long after, I’ll have about 5-6 hours for the slow cooker, and a couple hours to pull the rest together around my other plans for the day. Here’s what I’m thinking so far.

Did I miss anything? Not sure if I’m trying too hard for my first attempt. Even if it’s just a few of us out tailgating, I think it will be fun to try out a menu that I can pack up and serve in a parking lot with friends. If you want to come out, here’s the link for tickets (or to make a donation to the cause): http://www.jacksonvilleunited.com/2011/06/help-jufc-save-our-sports/

A Love Theme

“I believe we can be extraordinary together rather than ordinary apart.”
–Meredith Grey | Grey’s Anatomy

Possible wedding theme??

Two updates on our wedding. First, our very own wedding website. It’s where we’ll post all the info about the big day, including travel info for those who are coming from out of town. Find it at http://bit.ly/garrett_lauren

Second, we’ve entered ourselves in the Ultimate Wedding giveaway from Crate & Barrel. The grand prize of a $100,000 wedding isn’t shabby, but I think the $7,500 C&B gift card for the runner up is just as good! You can vote once per email address (hint hint) but to cast your vote you have to register with crateandbarrel.com (which I recommend but don’t expect everyone to do). To see our entry page and click on th pink Vote button, go to http://bit.ly/vote_GL. By the way, we’ll be registering at C&B so that registration might come in handy down the line 🙂

Thanks for reading our updates and all the well-wishes we’ve received so far!
