Life Should Be A Little Bit Fun

The February issue of brass|MAGAZINE features four Canadian guys who are creating a documentary called “The Buried Life.” Their premise is:  one question. four guys. 100 things to do before you die.

I met these guys back in October, when they visited brass HQ for their photo shoot. Between the news cameras, breakfast bagels, lots of photo taking and trying to get some work done, I got to spend a few minutes one-on-one with them. We talked about everything from perspectives on new media, being a young adult and our best road trip stories — but they kept bringing it back to the question: What Do You Want to Do Before You Die?

I’ve been thinking about this and decided it was time to write down my list so I can really start crossing them off (much like the satisfaction of throwing away to-do PostIt notes). You can see my list, and any updates I make to it, on the My Life List page.  (hint: subscribe to my RSS feed for automatic updates)

I know I’ve lived well so far, because many of the things I wanted to put on my list, I either checked off or modified so it still fits. A few of those that I wouldn’t mind doing again are:

  • Swim with dolphins
  • Hit a hole-in-one
  • Live like an Italian for a week
  • Share a kiss underneath a beautiful sunset

This life list thing is fun. Thinking about it, writing it down, remembering those things you’ve already done. Reminds me of one of my favorite inspirational songs. “Dream Big” is one I wish I could play for all my friends to make sure they know anything is possible. Listen to this song while you take a look at what I can’t wait to do…(update: click to listen to Ryan Shupe’s Dream Big)

  • Make a sushi dinner
  • Travel to every continent
  • Ride in a Venetian gondola with someone who makes me smile
  • Work for, or set-up, a foundation
  • Dance the Dirty Dancing finale scene

Many thanks to Sarah and her Big 30, and the Buried Life guys for inspiration while writing this. Check out my page and start your own list on the Buried Life’s network.
